One of the most exciting invitations I got for Fashion Week was an invitation by Vogue. An invitation to the opening of Mario Testino's In Your Face exhibition.
One thing I want to do more: visit galleries, look at art and let it completely overcome me.
Standing there between Mario Testino's works I remembered the power of a room of art having over me, the hold on me it could have and the feeling it would leave me with for hours if not sometimes days after, from my a-level time (my main courses were art & english) as we'd visit galleries on the regular.
Mario Testino's In Your Face exhibition is a must look-at. For photography lovers, fashion lovers and anyone with an appreciation for moods captured in a pure moment.
And it left me craving again.
So here is one thing I want to do more often: visit galleries.
If you happen to be in Berlin, I'd advise you to go check it out. I's here at the Kunstbibliothek until summer. In fact come to Berlin just to see the exhibition, then stay 2 or 3 more days and explore the city.
I missed the early morning press conference with Mario Testino due to a hangover. Most bloggers think press conferences are boring. I don't know, but I like listening to what brands, the creatives, the minds behind have to say about whatever it is their presenting. I like to listen to other people's questions and them being answered. Anyway I missed the morning conference, but I did bump into the man himself. Coincidently I walked into the exhibition hours after the event began (got held up at the Kilian Kerner Show) as he came in to and share a few words with the spectators. And his presence is something else!
It was refreshing to breath a breath of new air. A taste of a new world. Mingling among the fashion industries insiders and experts, sipping a glass of champagne in a whole new world. Along with 5 others I seemed to be the only blogger present. Never have I been in a crowd of so well dressed and truly stylish people. There was this class about them that's hard to find during Berlin Fashion Week.
I should have used the time to network, get to know these people in stylish clothes.
What's their story? I wondered..
What do they do when the lights come on? ...Day job?
But I sat there mesmerized, definitely still starstruck from the exhibition and in complete awe that I'd made eye contact with Mario Testino himself, if only for a brief second. I was taking it all in in admiration. Art leaves me humbled. Humbled to have been able to lay my eyes upon someone elses vision, mind and inner thoughts expressed in a way that could lead me to think, feel or even create.
And then there was the fact that I was sitting at a VOGUE Party.
And I was invited.
Between the true industries insiders.
It felt like the way I felt when I first attended the Alexander McQueen Cocktail with Sarah Burton.
Somehow I was worthy of an invitation. Thank you.
I didn't stay too long. I let it all dawn on me, enjoy it while it lasted and then I was already off the my next event. Fashion week keeps you on the constant run.
